CAD Model Features

In this challenge i did not get past the first page. Making the shapes and figures are quite easy, but getting it to the right spot or coordinates was the tough part. I managed that make the circle, square, and triangle and extruded all of them. I also made the start, but i had to get it in the right position and extrude it. The most challenging part was getting the shapes in the right coordinates, but the easiest part was creating each shape. I still find getting shapes symmetrical quite hard and i would like to learn more about it.

Geometric constraints

The shape my partner and i used to design the shelter were triangles. The reason we picked triangles was because they are known that be the strongest shape due to the equal amount of force between each piece. The angles that we formed were 60 degree angles meaning they are acute. The overall surface area of our shelter was 54.2 in^2 this is including the bottom area. The surface area we would need to cover the house is 40.65 in^2. The surface area of the interior is also the same. In my opinion i think about 4 people would fit in this house. 2 people downstairs and 2 people up stairs. We tested the strength by placing notebooks on it and hammering it down with a hammer. We even tossed and kicked the house around. Overall the structure was strong and ready to be put out into the world.

Picture will be added soon

Question Answer

Can you center a hole on a plane which is not created with the origin in the middle?

Yes, it is possible. When you create your plane or figure you must move the cursor until 2 lines show up. These lines will be dashed and will show a yellow dot which is the center. Once you find it you can select your tool to create a hole.

What you learned from your partner?

I learned from my partner how to make a sphere in inventor. Not realizing that inventor had a sphere button we made it from scratch. We first made a semi circle making sure we had the right diameter. After creating that we clicked the revolve button and revolved that semi circle 360 degrees, which resulted in the sphere being formed.

Form Follows Function

What i intended to do with this product was to eliminate a annoying yet common issue many of us face everyday. Computer fans tend to be loud most of the time. Especially when you use a computer for a long time. The product improvement i came up with is very simple. Its is just a piece of rubber that will go around and completely surround the fan. The fan will them be a lot more quite because the rubber will absorb the noise. Not only that, but they rubber will also stop the vibrations that occur when the fans spin at a higher RPM. This product would be made in a production factory where molding occurs. There will be metal templates of this product which will be filled my melted rubber and then cooled down. The color of the product will just be paint that is applied during the melting stage. This is very similar to fans today because it has the same shape and look of it. Its is unique because it is universal and is not limited to computer fans. Overall this improvement is the best way to go for a quieter fan.    (The computer fan image is taken from grabcad.com)

Puzzle Cube Reflection

For the puzzle i created i time a total of five people.

Adult: 15:00 unsolved

Questions:
1. Its important to model and design first so you can eliminate as many flaws as possible.
2. The piece i would admire most is the one shaped in the letter P because the letter P is what my name starts with.
3. The one thing i would like to change about my puzzle would be the roughness of the blocks. I really wanted to sand the whole thing down and make it smooth.
